Greibrau Time!

We finally got to work on that piece of Bloodwood shown in the photo of the white Gator Foam letters. This relief is for a beer tapper behind a bar. The Greibrau brewer is a fellow in Wisconsin who has over 30 micro brewed flavors and wanted something special to serve them from.
The piece is 23" high and 28" wide with tapper holes,V carved letters and the final pheasant relief carved in the center. Once we complete the tap handles and the framing for this piece, we will certainly post new photos. For now its a work in process we thought might stimulate the imagination.
Call Wellhouse Woodworks for those special architectural details in wood, plastics, HDU, or other beautiful materials & finishes.

Please pass the jamb

With all the arches we make,we still get surprised sometimes. A new customer asked us to make some custom arches, then asked; But where do I get the half round jambs to match?
We happily agreed to help out and developed a very effective and accurate way to produce this 28" wide x 14" high casing to go with the linear trim, arches, and custom routed center keystones in matching red oak. We'll post photos of the completed installation as soon as we get them.
So please pass the jamb with the next order for custom arches.

Letters are shapes too.

Sometimes cutting a shape out is very helpful to our customers. The latest request came from a display company that makes lots of beautiful trade show booths and displays but they do not make their own dimensional letters or logos. These are cut in 2" thick Gator foam which our customer will apply vinly colors for the final sign.
These could also be metalized with our brass, silver,or copper finishes for a metal letter design like the brass ring or silver lizard.
Our equipment is ideal for many sign materials and we were happy to help make the show deadline.
Next time you just want something cut out to a specific shape, give us a call. By the way that board these letters is on is called Bloodwood. Its a beautiful material and would make a gorgeous sign or relief as well.

What kind of Arch makes music?

An Arch with FLUTES!!
Sorry, I couldn't resist that one.
Typically we fabricate arches with custom profiles. We also make Fluted casings. But we don't see fluted arches or elipses as often. This photo of a fluted elipse is a nice combination of shape and style for an Custom made entry door and window. Arches are very special to us and we take pride in every one we make. Satisfaction Guaranteed!

Builder, Seller, Buyer

We enjoy our relationships with builders and material suppliers who use us to support their custom arches for their custom homes. Recently we were asked about some 18" x 24" FOR SALE signs. These signs are used by Realtors and Builders to advertise their properties but they get beat up quickly. Since they are steel with vinyl or painted surfaces, it doesn't take much time to get rusted, bent, and just worn out. Not the best image to attract a buyer.
We provided our 2 color polymer material for a no maintaince, long lasting, and cost effective solution. Not only will they look better, they will last longer, won't rust, fit into the same frames, and are easily maintained.
Weather you are a Builder or Seller, you're sure to attract more Buyers with a fresh looking custom routed sign. Why not give us a try next time those tired old steel signs get rusted and worn out?

Catch the Brass Ring!

We once took a ride on an original style carrousel at Martha's vineyard which still had Brass Ring holders. Back in the day a child would ride around the carrousel on the beautifully carved and painted Horses, and attempt to "catch the Brass Ring" from its holder. Believe me, its not as easy as it sounds. Those who caught the Brass Ring won a carvival prize and bragging rights as a memento for their skill and accomplishment.
This routed relief can be seen in earlier posts before finishing. Here it has been finished with a metalic Brass finish and a patina to truly age the piece. This design was created for a mirror frame but it could easily be for a ceiling medalion, picture frame, or any type of architectural embellishment. You too can "Catch the Brass Ring" when you put Wellhouse Woodworks to work on your next custom project.

Back in the Woods

There is something special about the look of real wood. There are some beautiful species and finishes that can be applied for everything from the "Silver Lizard" to a more natural rustic look. This piece of poplar never had it so good. This sign adds just the right finishing touch to its new cabin home. We think our client, the poplar, and the moose are happy to be back in the woods. If your looking for that one of a kind piece for your special someplace, or a truly unique sign for your business, give us a call and we will be happy to help.

Finishing does wonders

Below you can see this same relief in its original state before finishing. We could have applied any number of finishes but this is a true silver metal finish. Copper, Brass, or Gold can be accomplished with a tarnished or oxidized finish to add a great patina to a design.

Wait a Minute!

Sometimes I forget that a lot of the materials we use are not familiar to people who would like a Custom sign, turning, trim, or a unique carved relief. The world is filled with so many options that one can accomplish just about anything in terms of the "look and feel" of a piece. This sign is made from a copolymer material. Think of it as recycled milk jugs. It carves very nicely, lasts forever, modestly priced, and is easy to maintain. The added benefit is "graffiti resistance" since paint doesn't stick to it. I will be adding links to our web site, www.wellhousewoodworks.com
so those interested can gain more knowlege and technical details on many of the materials we commonly use. If you ever want more information, please let us know.

Cracking the creativity egg

We have produced some interesting projects but, this one reminded Ben, Whitney, & me of a prehistoric lizard just emerging from its egg. We hope you enjoy this example of what can be accomplished. Just add equal parts of imagination and our precision CNC routing equipment.

Many styles to choose from

We offer many standard monument styles but don't let that limit your imagination. New styles and sizes can easily be created using your ideas and concepts. Monuments can be delivered in as few as 2 to 4 weeks once a design is finalized and can be installed in a few hours.

Monuments make a statement

There are many options for signage but one of the traditional styles is a Monument for neighborhoods, complexes, or entrances. By using modern EFIS construction and finishing techniques we end up with a great look, long life, easy maintainance, and installation.
Surface finishes range from a stucco look to flagstone, metal, wood, bamboo, or a hybrid of several material finishes.
Add any number of lettering styles, sign face techniques, or materials for a truly unique image. Custom graphics, logos, routed into our Polymer materials make a low maintaince, long lasting impression. This monument is 48" x 96" and incorporates the client logo in our Tan/Green color combination with painted surfaces to match the complex brick and awning colors. That's our daughter Whitney who was a great helper on this project.

We've seen the light!

Programming and operating a CNC machine is fun and challenging. One must remember that the design and program files can only do so much. It still takes a person to make sure the results meet our customers expectations. One new adaptation we find helpful is a laser light guide. Not only is it easier to see, it provides a precision reference point to insure accurate tool registration. It's not rocket science but, it sure helps deliver a high quality precision product. Just one of the little things that help us improve every day.

A final photo on New years day

Looking back on 2005, we've had a great time and have been quite fortunate. One can only hope 2006 is as much fun as we continue the wonderful journey we're on. One of the projects we volunteered for was an address sign for the Habitat for Humanity organization. We were happy to make a small contribution to someone who is getting a new start. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Lets not forget Wood

One of the V carved signs we made was created in some beautiful Teak. The client was a custom home builder who was looking forward to creating an upscale image. He wanted to have some fun himself building the frame and final sign structure but we were happy to make this contribution to his vision.

Always something new to explore

We try to add methods and skills to our capabilities and be useful to our clients while having some fun. As we continue down that path we find the possibilities unlimited and learn something new every day. Clients are often the ones who drive us in new directions and we are thrilled to be part of their unique vision for custom projects like this one.

Some neat Materials

As we continue to explore and expand, we are always on the look out for new materials. One of the nice ones is really good for everyone. The polymers used from recyled plastic, like milk jugs are converted into a 2 color sheet which we carve into custom signs. The good news is this material is great in all weather conditions and delivers a long lasting professional image with practically no maintaince or wear. Hopefully, it also saves some redwoods along the way. We've done many of this type and our clients are very pleased with the great custom look at a modest price.

And then there are Turnings.

We don't try to compete with your local Home depot's so when it comes to turnings, folks either want something "conventional" or something "uniquely personal". The unique part is where we come in. We were commissioned to produce a repeating 3 pattern design for a historical staircase renovation project. The client wanted a repeating triple turning pattern design they enviisioned and this is what it ended up like. They liked it and we were happy to help turn their idea into reality.

Arches are special

From the beginning, we have attempted to produce unique items for unique clients. One area of particular interest is custom arched trim. It seems large factories aren't really too interested in these little head aches but we love them. To assist our local builders, lumber yards, cabinet makers, or others who need arches; we provide a full service from on site measurement, to final delivery. Along the way we cut precision arches from computer design, profile the shape, deliver it to the site, and insure a precision fit.
No surprises. So if you want to reduce the stress of measuring, ordering, waiting, reordering, and hoping your arch will fit correctly, we would love to hear from you.
